HAIR TRIALS
Why do we women obsess about our hair so much? I mean, we spend hundreds of dollars a year on shampoos, haircuts, gels, mousses, glazes, hair color (though none for me yet, praise God), clips, headbands, shine gunk, and who knows what all. This picture is my current new attempt to not have to blow dry my hair all the time. I found some new stuff that lets it dry in its natural wave without being frizzy.

I acually like it, but I've gotten mixed reviews from my friends. D and Di like it, K says it reminds her too much of her own. And then there are the friends who simply say NOTHING. Isn't that like telling you a bucket over your head might be more appealing? Or the ones who say, "Hey, you have a new hairdo." Then they shoot glances at your head while not saying if it's good or bad. It's enough to make a girl shave her head. Well, not quite.

Still, I slog away trying to find the perfect "do." At least it's something I can do something about, unlike my thighs.

  1. Great blog, C. And by the way, I do love your hair--but then I think it ALWAYS looks good!!

I cracked up when you talked about those people who mention that you have a new hairstyle, but then say nothing more. I get so nervous around people like that. I'm afraid in these liberated days of perimenopause I just might say something like, "Yeah, so what about it? You noticed the hair, now what?"

Okay, I'm slime. I hope one day I'll be nice again.

oh i think it looks good colleen! i wish my hair was a nice colour like that!

i put a dark brown colour thru my hair last night, and straightened it this morning, AND wore my glasses today, and i got stared at all day long! so funny! people didn't know what to comment on, the colour, the straightness or the glasses (which for most of the day sat perched atop my head).

  3. Colleen, it looks wonderful. Go with it. :)

I wanted a simpler style, too, so I permed it. Well, I didn't perm it, my hairdresser did. I left her shop going, "Um, I have a perm. Did I want a perm?" :)

    But I love it!

Be blessed today, friend, you loook marveloous!

  4. All I know is that, about every two or three months, I need to say to my wife: "I like your hair." Usually I'm better off if I say that somewhere near the time she had it done, but it's pretty much a crap shoot.

  6. Hey, does that work, Corina? If it does, I think I'll go reread Kristin and Diann's newest. I've tried everything else to get rid of the butt. LOL

Your hair looks great! It's wavy enough to have that "oooh, I'm naturally, effortlessly glam" thing going on. Mine is so not as cool as all that - just wavy enough to not be curly and cute, and not straight and chic, just sort of wrinkled. Ew!

  10. Colleen, your hair looks beautiful, no buckets for you. :0) You should tell Camy you'll go platinum blonde if she does, but then maybe not cause she just might do it. LOL.

Oh, and if you ever find out the secret to thinner thighs, I'm all ears. :0)

Your hair is beautiful, Colleen. Even moreso for 3:05 AM! LOL

As for thighs, I walked around, setting the table this evening in a modified duck walk. I've read that lunges are great for thighs. (I almost typed "lunches." Not!) I forgot to do my lunges today, so I duckwalked. I don't know if that's good for the thighs, but I know it's good and painful!

  12. I think it looks rather cute. And I'm SO jealous! I've been having to color my gray since I was TWENTY! UGH.....premature graying runs in my family.

Slapping Camy upside the head. Don't you DARE go blonde! UGH

    Now about my thighs....LOL

  13. No gray. Wow! I'm impressed. Miss Clairol and I are very good friends, and I haven't even hit the big 4-0 yet. :)

  16. Colleen, looks good to me. Hair has always been a big subject in my family. I live with two hairdressers, my daughter and formerly, my husband(not my former husband, former hairdresser). Now before you all get jealous and think I wake up looking like a magazine photo shoot, keep in mind...being mom and wife, I am an instant and non threatening object for experiment in color. I have been brown, red, burgandy, blonde, blonde/brown, blonde/red and when I don't set an appoinment, gray/brown/blonde. But it's all good! Thankfully, I've never had to hide out. My daughter is the best. My husband is a former hairdresser and that's where we leave it. So...if you ever want to change that color, I can fix you right up.

  17. Colleen, your hair always looks great. Isn't it interesting how we all think about changing our hair at the first of the year? The lady in the mirror whacked my bangs and I had to go get a professional to fix me up...

  18. Colleen, you crack me up! I had to laugh about people who say, "Hey, you've got a new hairdo." They MUST be kin to the people who break their necks to get to you after a public function, only to say, "Hey, I read your book!!" and then just stand there waiting for your reaction to their amazing announcement. I'm thinking I might want some of Diann's liberation so I can say, "And what about it?"
