I think a cell phone ring says a lot about a person.
For me, I'm a fairly no-nonsense kind of a gal, so truly, I could get by with your basic, normal, boring ring. Well, okay, maybe not. My favorite ring tone is the song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Just listening to it makes me happy.
Another of my favorite rings is when my hubby calls. It plays, "Mr. Postman" by the Carpenters. Remember that one? We lived two hours apart when we were dating, so we sent a lot of letters (snail mail, they called it. The kind with the stamp and all that, maybe you've heard of it?) So that song seems appropriate. In fact, I enjoy it so much, I always get wrapped up in the song when he calls and sometimes even miss answering it in time.
My daughter's ringtone when she calls me is always a happy tune and my son's has something to do with summer fun (he's a teacher). My husband even programmed my phone so that when extended family calls, it rings, "We Are Family." How cool is that?
So tell me about your phone tones. And here's the fun part, what made you choose them?

Mine is a whippoorwill. It is like a little taste of home. I don’t hear them where I live now, but when I was growing up I would hear them every night.
Mine is Beethoven's Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee. My texting ringtone is a gentle violin piece that was preinstalled on my phone. Love it.
I'm not sure what it says about me--maybe I crave soothing tones over the crying, screaming, yelling, whining I hear on a daily basis. My son found a ringtone of a baby laughing that was very adorable and you can't help but laugh when you hear it.
I only have one personal ring on my phone right now and it's for my special guy friend. He is a former bullrider and what better song than "Give Me 8 More Seconds?" The moment I heard it, I knew that had to be his ringtone.
Right now I have David Crowder Band Here is Your King for my regular ring. But I'll change them out on occasion.
My phone volume is low even on the highest setting so I need louder songs so I'll hear it. I love classical, but if I'm more than a few feet away I can't here it.
Don't buy an LG Shine if you want loud rings. I have other issues with the phone too, but I won't fill this space with them.
Well that's easy. Mine is the same boring ring tone it had when I brought it home because I don't know how to program the thing.
So true. I shall keep the names a secret, but I have a girly song for when my sister calls and a song that fits the sense of humor I share with my my hubby when he calls. And when my daughter is at her dad's, I have a special ring just for when she calls from her cell phone.
What I really am uncomfortable with is when I am in some public place and Mr. Tough Guy or Mr. Cowboy straight off the ranch has a very loud ring that is something very womanly, like the Carpenters. It just somehow doesn't fit and it ruins the whole fantasy. After that he doesn't get to be in my novel. :-)
Tough Guys need to have a normal ring! I suspect their wives program their rings in for them!
Oh my gosh, this is funny, I was just talking about this the other day with a friend. I don't even know how to download ring tones!
LOL. I know, I'm weird. But, from the ones hard coded into the phone, I just put it on the generic on.
But, for my sweet hubby, I found one that is a whistle. 'Cuz he whistles all the time. LOL.
Fun post!
I find the ring tones (songs) annoying, lol. I have the old fashioned brrrring-brrrring sound on mine. It's a phone. Sounds like a phone. :)
cheryl
Diann, I never took you for a tech-savvy woman, but you've blown me away! I have the boring ring - for everyone! How do you choose? Of course, my cell phone is about 6 years old. I don't even have a contract any more. I know it's time for a new one. Fun! Shopping! Will you program it when I get it? LOL
Oh, I didn't mean to mislead you, friends. "I" did not program the ring tones. My husband did it for me.
There, Ane, do you feel better now? ;-)
I have my parents programmed as John Mayer's "Daughters" and my hubby is Chris Brown's "With You". I like the specialized ring tones because I know who is calling before I even answer!
My current cell phone doesn't have any fun songs (because I broke my phone and had to revert to an older version). It does let me program, though.
I'm too cheap to buy ring tones, so I work with whatever comes on the phone, but I use the same rules whenever I get a new phone:
Hubby - the most obnoxious ring available, so I don't miss it.
Lil' Sis - something tropical (b/c she loves the islands)
Big Sis - Hava Nagila [or similar] (b/c she married a Messianic Jewish man)
Parents - classical
The songs are never the same from phone to phone, but the pattern remains :)
I like all those fun ringtones but I must be getting old because I can't always hear them! So I finally downloaded a plain old boring ring that was LOUD. Though I have my brothers' phones programed with Chris Ledoux cowboy songs. LOL
I was searching for something that was unique and made me smile--and also one I thought I would hear without much trouble! I found one put out by Chris Tomlin based on his song "Forever." Only on my phone he sings "Forever your phone is ringing, forever, and ever, (pick up your phone) forever, (seriously pick up your phone) forever your phone. . ."
First time it rang during Bible Study I thought the class would come unglued!
The personalities of my family made me choose them primarily. My hubby's ringtone is "I Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore" by REO Speedwagon--it's our song.
My son's--a cover of a song done by the Chipmunks
My mom's--her ringtone on her phone so we match
My youngest daughter's--she picked it, and I can never remember the title...something about bubbles tickling her nose or touching her toes:-)
I'm working on the rest of the family, but I'm cheap...
Unfortunately, or maybe not, I still have an "old-fashioned" cell phone, hee...my friends tell me I need to modernize. Why? I like my little phone. I only use it when I am out and about.
Anyhoo, my ring tones are just that that ring tones, hee...One is very loud, the other semi-loud.
Mine is a Jeremy Camp song: We Give You Glory...It serves as a reminder to make sure I'm living in a way that will honor Him if the song belts out in the middle of a group/public.
In the past my best friend's ring tone was the theme from Indiana Jones - cause she was majoring in archaeology... and its also been "Its the End of the World as We Know it" cause I tried to find theme to Stargate and settled on this one instead (hilarious fan made video uses this song) LOL, but I've never redownloaded them on the new phone. Right now for my mom its the Gilmore Girls theme song (self explanatory I think) - for my friends from college its the theme song from Facts of Life - for church friends - I uh, don't remember but its a praise song (I switched them out once in awhile) and for everyone else its a plain ring.
I just got a phone that allowed me to download ringtones a few months ago, so this is still a big deal to me. Right now I only have one: it's Keith Urban's "Sweet Thing". I sing that song to my poodle, so it seemed like a good fit. The only downside is that I like the song so much that when someone calls me, I listen to the whole thing and miss the call. :0)
Kristen, I do the same thing! When my husband calls it's the Carpenter's song, "Mr. Postman," and I love to listen to it--sometimes to the point of missing is call and having to call him back. :-)
Thanks for all the comments! What fun to hear your stories!
Ha! I'm so glad someone else has the same "problem"! It's just too fun to hear a song that you love!
The tone for my husband is "Forever and For Always", my daughter & son-in-law's is "I Just Wanna Be Mad" (my daughter says it's my theme song), the rest of my family is Abba's "Ring Ring" and everyone else in my phone list is "Boomer Sooner" - go OU. If the phone rings and it isn't one of those tones, I know that it is a "stranger" calling me.
