A NEW MESSIAH?
I love Oprah. Really I do. She's done a lot of great things for people. I almost think of her as a neighbor since we're 3 hours from Chicago, plus she has a lake house about an hour from me. I think she's super at encouraging people to take charge of their lives and change them for the better. But even Lucifer can masquerade as an angel of light and I'm afraid we've all been blinded by Oprah's sweetness and light.

So this serious post when we're usually light-hearted really pains me. I always knew she had a little different take on spirituality, but it's only been recently that we've seen just how far afield she's strayed. She's very deceived now, and if it's bad enough that she's standing on the edge of a cliff, but she's drawing millions of people there with her. According to today's bestsellers on Amazon, FOUR of the top five titles are by her new guru Eckhart Tolle.

In church Sunday our pastor showed this video of Oprah herself telling what she believes. What had me shaking my head was when she said she was in church and it just didn't FEEL right that God would be a jealous God. Hello? That's what the Bible says. Since when is truth based on feeling? The Bible tells us to hold what we're told up against the light of the Bible. THAT is truth, not feelings or impressions or dreams or prophesies. The Bible is the litmus test.

Here is the video I'm talking about. It totally grieves and surprises me. Did you know she was heading this direction? I didn't see it coming, not in this awful way. http://mywisegeneration.blogspot.com/2008/04/oprahs-new-age-religion-contradicts.html

Wow. I just watched that video and I'm kind of speechless right now. I had no idea that Oprah even thought like that. I have to admit that I haven't watched the episodes about the "new earth" just because I thought they were boring. Everytime I would see it on the television I would change the channel, I had no idea what it was even about.

There is no doubt that Oprah is popular and whatever book or thing she is promoting sells. Even my Journalism teacher talks about the influence she has in our society. But it is scary to think that she is leading people to this. At first I didn't watch because I thought it was boring now I'm really glad I didn't.

I love Oprah too. But, Yes she has been deceived for years now. I think it all may have started just about the time O magazine came out. She had read a book called the "Seat of the Soul" By Gary Zukav. She started to talk about her show being the Mothership. And She won't say God anymore, but that the Universe give's you what you want.

I had thought the "new earth" book was about global warming.

Oh boy... I've never seen this before. I, like Anna Marie, was picturing "new earth" as something to do with the environment.

It's scary the kind of world we live in: if people don't hear what they want, they come up with something that fits. I know people who honestly believe that whatever Oprah says go.

This is so sad.

Colleen I could not agree more. It is so sad to think she is so deceived. But at this point she is not only deceived-she is deceiving others! I am so glad your pastor showed the video in church to expose the lies. Laurien, you didn't watch the shows not just because they were boring to you but because your Heavenly Father protected you from such trash.

It's all very sad AND very scary! Thank you for exposing this, C. I'll be praying for Oprah and the thousands she is leading astray.

It's been several years since I've been able to watch Oprah. I watched her faithfully in college, but something changed...slowly... and I just couldn't tolerate her anymore. More and more frequently her shows became more about how African Americans can overcome and - even though that is very true and there's nothing wrong with that - something didn't sit right. Then it became more and more about Oprah's on-air therapy sessions (which were a guise for dealing with her own troubles) and her raves about the latest and greatest diet or therapist or designer or book or whatever. She lost touch with her humble roots and reality.(Road trip with Gayle anyone?)

She never gave anything away unless it was in public. That's not generosity. That's vanity.

You could tell she was searching; but there was some evil driving force in the background.

Oh and the fact that so many people blindly took her word as gospel... scary. I truly believe if Barack Obama had a different ethnic background but had the very same views (whatever they are) Oprah wouldn't have endorsed him so heavily.

Is that cynical? Probably. But something sinister is using Oprah as a mouthpiece and it's terrifying.

We don't watch her in my house anymore.

Some of you have seen this coming. I had no clue! But I won't be turning on Oprah any more or buying the magazine.

I have seen this and the other info on her new church and even read an article in a magazine here which says her new advice guru the one shes basing alot of stuff on has actually been investigated etc.
here new online church has over 3 million viewers or people doing the lessons already. its really scary stuff. I dont watch her for this reason now. Shes so powerful and can do alot of good but with the new direction shes taken shes dangerous.
here is a link my friend sent not sure if its the same one as here

At first I thought my pastor was going a little too far. Not anymore! He's right on about Oprah being into the New Age stuff. He's been saying for a while now that he feels she's leading people down the wrong path.

When you think about it, she acts like a messiah. I can just hear her, "Come to me one and all. I'll show you the right path to take."

We do need to pray for her and the millions she's blinding.

For sure, Rhonda, prayer can work miracles!

Colleen - I'm so thankful you posted this. The video was sent to me several weeks ago, along with the online studies she is doing, and I forwarded it to almost my entire address book. I've been praying fervently ever since. So many people are being led astray and it just breaks my heart.

The power and control she has - to use it in such a way...

May God surround His people, and encourage them to stand up against this evil. And may He protect the hearts and minds of those who don't know Him, and claim them for Himself. And may God knock some sense into Oprah, open her eyes, her mind, her ears, and bring her back to JESUS.

I was recently given a web video on Obama. Here's the addy if anyone wants to see it:
http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?RsrcID=2036

What's scary, is how many people who support Obama do it because Oprah endorses him. The two of these people combined are a frightening power we need to pray never happens.

My family and I stopped watching and listening to Oprah when she decided to take on the beef industry and kicked farmers off of their family farms because people stopped buying beef because she told them to.

I'm not the least surprised, Colleen. I've heard enough over the years to know she was New Age back in the 1990's. I have never watched her show much because of it.

Colleen,
My heart was broken for her when I heard her on a radio broadcast about why she left the Christian faith she grew up in. With what I heard, I felt God had a truth for her, so I blogged about it. Here is my response if anyone wants to read it.

It is indeed so sad, but not surprising:

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. II Timothy 4:3

What is really scary is how many "Christians" like her and have followed her for years. And who don't know their Bible well enough not to be deceived.

Oh, Satan is subtle. He hooks us in with something seemingly harmless, and then when we're "in" he brings in the bad stuff. Reminds me of the illustration about the frog and the pot of water: Put a frog in a pot of boiling water and he'll jump right out. Put him in a pot of plain water and s-l-o-w-l-y turn up the heat, and he'll boil to death.

I was just talking with Robin about how much of a blessing it is that God IS a jealous God. It helps keep us out of trouble.

I guess I had never assumed her a Christian, so this isn't surprising at all. It is amazing how sometimes you just 'know' that someone isn't right. I think that is the decerning Spirit that God gives some of us.

The one thing I really liked about the video you posted though was the section that I think was one of her shows, and there were the 2 women in the audience telling her that she wasn't right, that Jesus was the only way. I don't know about you all, but I was almost out of my seat shouting 'Yes! You go girls!' As much as it disappoints me about Ophrah, I applaud those two women for standing up for their beliefs, as I am sure it wasn't easy to stand up and 'defy' Ophrah on National TV! Kudos to them!

What bothered me (besides all of it) was that she didn't even GET the jealous God thing. Her spirit "led" her to turn away from the basic principles of God based on a misinterpretation of the Word.

And that New Earth book? YAWNNNNNNN. It reads as well as a grad level quantum physics book. And Tolle dresses in shiny lame. Okay, that was the deal breaker for me. He's a Bible violator AND a fashion violator. I just can't abide that combination.
; )

At 9:04 PM, Blogger Colleen Coble said...

Me too, Krista! I was cheering those ladies on. They had guts to do that on national TV!

Jenny, I cracked up at what you said about the fashion thing. LOL

I think Eckhart Tolle looks like a child molester. He just creeps me out. I can't watch him, or listen to his emasculated voice.

Don't you think he could be more manly? Like Michael Jackson perhaps?

There's a lot of Scripture throughout that book, and my only prayer is that people see the Word there, which has power and throw the rest away.

i noticed that (about the link) after i watched it it wasn't loading for me last night.

I guess I didn't think she was a committed christian but more someone who says they were christian like you would say im a south Australia. it doesn't mean alot. its something to put on a form but nothing more is thought of it. We see alot of people say they are christian but they dont act it. and thats how I thought of Oprah. But as many said Prayer for her can change her.
If she became a committed Christian and lived for God she could have a big impact.

I saw a video of Oprah talking about her church experiences. She was bitter about having to be at church at a certain time or she couldn't get a seat. Is that a bit self-centered? But I bet she's not used to not getting a seat these days. Front row center for her. And the other things she talked about all seemed to come down to she didn't want to be told what was right or wrong. She wanted to decide for herself. Do for herself. Not follow God. Which feeds right back into why she would recoil at God being jealous. Jealous of our love, our attention. And that to me is why so many people buy into what she's preaching these days. They don't want to sacrifice what they're doing for what God might want them to do.

Thanks for talking about this Colleen!

I don't even have to watch the video - I've known where Oprah was headed for a long time. Thank you for standing up and for saying something! {{hugs}}

Colleen,

I am so happy you posted this. I too posted a blog on this topic about a month ago and when I saw the entire segment that this clip is based on, it just broke my heart. So many women falling for the lies that Oprah speaks about on a daily basis. Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for posting the video. I had heard things about her but didn't realize the scope of the situation. What was wierd to me was she thought God was jealous of her! Whatever. Like Jenny said, she didn't get that part at all.
Prayers have to be said for her and all the people she is dragging down with her. It is soooo important to study the word so people like this don't trip us up.
