Girls Write Out
Monday, April 21, 2008

So I've been in L.A. this weekend. May I just say that is the cleavage capital of the world? If you've ever felt flat in your life, L.A. is not the place to be. Honestly, there is no limit to what is acceptable down there. Women boast what looks like a tanned bum hanging out their shirts at 3 in the afternoon! What was it Mamie said about showing your bosom before five o'clock? And really, when your bosom is bigger than my bum, maybe you shouldn't show it at all. The force on these shirts defies the laws of physics.

Anyway, put the girls away, Los Angeles! Save something for the imagination.

I'm home to the geeks of Silicon Valley (Praise God!). I got a copy of the "What a Girl Wants" screenplay and I just love it! It is fabulous and funny and so weird...because people who write screenplays just seem to know which scenes to include into a movie. It's wonderfully exciting to see and I just hope it makes it to movie format because I think the writers did a fabulous job! Happy Monday all, I'm off to my facial this morning in desperate need of an Ashley morning after a week off with the kids, and a minivan, and a drive to Los Angeles.

I can hardly wait to see the movie! And read that new book!

I so agree that L.A. needs to hide their cleavage, lol. And while they're at it, hiding the love handles wouldn't hurt, either (low rise jeans simply shouldn't be worn by some figure types). They should also hide their crack (in the back)...nobody needs to know that a person is wearing thong underwear or what color the things are. It should be their little secret. Theirs and Victoria's.

Oooooo, can't wait for the movie, Kristin!!! Ashley is already very "real" in our minds. It would be great to see her in a movie! (I hope she can find the right shoes to wear.)

That's just too stinkin' cool Kristin! I'm so happy for you! We could get little Ashley clubs all over the country and go see it in throngs!

BTW, I'm so glad I live out here where we have seasons and for half of the year body parts are put away.

In many ways I can't wait to see it become a movie - but I am also scared to... because I love the book so much. But you know? If you like it then I know its going to be awesome!

Kristin--I am thrilled that you love the screenplay! And excited to see what comes next...However, when I read Suzanne's comment, I freaked a little. I thought it said, "We could get little Ashley clubs all over the country and go see it in THONGS." ;)

BTW, even plain old Kansas City has more cleavage than should meet the eye. I went to the mall on Saturday to obtain some Godiva chocolate for a friend's birthday, and WOW! I thought I was in California for a minute there! Just don't get me started on cleavage in church. Sheesh.

I *KNEW* someone would read that as thongs...lol Katy

Ha!Ha! Katy, I read "thongs" too and thought, "No way, Suzanne. I'm not wearing one--not even for an Ashley movie!" Thanks for pointing out it said, "throngs!" Yes, we will go in THRONGS. LOL. Suzanne, you said that ON PURPOSE!

We're having similar problems here in Texas.

I understand wanting to wear as little as possible down here, it is stinkin' hot sometimes.

But please!

I'm going to have to start talking like my grandpa and asking those ladies if they paid full price for that shirt, because the makers forgot part of it.

BTW, I'll be first in line for the movie!

Anytime a friend of mine is having a hard time in life, I buy her the Ashley books. Laughter really is the best medicine!

I think the movie will be on TV girls, if it happens. I am just so excited that I like the screenplay. It really captures all the great moments, and I think does the book a lot of justice. So yay!

There was a study at Stanford recently that men get stupid when they watch porn, it lights up the same part of the brain as gambling big in the stock market. Do you think LA is the reason for the bad economy? LOL

A facial sounds great. My husband treated me to one at the end of March at an Elizabeth Arden spa. It was fabulous, but I kept thinking of the George Clooney/Michelle Phieffer movie One Fine Day LOL

Kristin, this screenplay is so exciting. I'm thrilled for you. Waytago, girl!

AHH MOVIE. LOL. I am indulging in an Ashley fest after my last final.

Congratulations! Can't wait to see it, whether in theaters or on the telly. We'll all get to see Ashley come alive!

BTW, love the cover for Back to Life. When does it release?

At 3:15 PM, Blogger Kristin said...

Isn't that cover cute? Of course, I'm always big on the shopping covers. I wonder why that is? It comes out in September 2008.

I do pray we all get to see Ashley come to life. I couldn't have hand-picked a better Ashley. : )

You know what's worse that skinny girls with larger-than-life chests and cleavage? HEAVY girls with the same "skinny girl" mentality... Ok. I'll stop right there.

YAY! We (hopefully) get to see Ashley and all the other "Reasons" come to life! My fingers are crossed for you, Kristin!

Why do you taunt us with the cover of a book that won't be released until September? I see a Billerbeck book, and I want it NOW. Same with the movie. Can't they speed things along.

As for the cleavage issue, I'm not a big fan, but keep in mind that some of us have to wear turtlenecks to avoid a hint of it. Some of the current styles for larger women create the illusion of a waist, but I have an important word for all who wear them: camisole. My collection has been growing since fall.

At 6:15 PM, Blogger Kristin said...

Okay, I taunt because I'm done with the book, and it's been a long haul with edits, so I'm saying it's off my desk. It is yours...accept it...

Melanie, no, I wouldn't know anything about that, but oh for one day. I'd still keep myself buttoned though.

Love the new book cover!

And big woo hoo on the screen play! How exciting!

Yes, watch it in THRONGS. My brain hiccuped over that one, too, Katy. LOL. Is the title the same? Does it cover just the first book, or all three? Inquiring minds, and all that.

ok, so i too agree with the whole cleavage issue. I grew up in Orange County, just about 30 miles south of LA and Hollywood... All of So Cal seems to be desensitized to it. I'm now up here near Sacramento, and we still have our issues. I'm a youth director at a church up here and i've had to have the cleavage talk with one of my girls OVER AND OVER again! It's like she just doesn't get it that it's inappropriate to dress like that. It's tempting Christian and non-Christian men and that's WRONG! Do it to protect someone else's future husband just like you would want someone else to protect yours in the same way!! ok... i'm done teaching for the day. lol

I love the cover! And a MOVIE??? WOOHOO! Do you know who's going to perhaps play Ashley?? That is soooo exciting! I will get all of my youth group girls to get together and go see it in a THRONG... hahaha. although some of them might be wearing a thong... i just don't need to know about THAT! LOL :-)

YAY! For the movie and new book. I loved Ashley and the other reasons. It was my first venture into the Chick lit Christian style. I am now in love with most Christian Fiction. :)

Annie, I would love to hear you give that speech. I'm sure it goes in one ear and out the other. Take my Stanford study with you next time, and ask them if they really want to appeal to the stupid part of men. Or do they want one with a brain??

I know who will play Ashley, but I can't announce it yet. She's a very talented Christian woman, but I can't wait to say!

I just have to give you a Aman!! Annie! Thank you for that.

And Kris I hope everything work's out for the Movie. And the new book cover? ROCKIN'. I just love it. Girl + shopping = Lovin' it.
