Girls Write Out
Thursday, March 29, 2007

My husband has ESP. Okay, maybe not, but let me just say he has this uncanny ability of saying what I’m about to say—seconds before I say it. You know someone like that?

“Honey, will you pass the--”

And he gives me the salad bowl. Never mind that there is spaghetti, garlic bread and parmesan cheese on the table from which he could choose, he knows I want salad, and he serves it with a smile (or is it an evil grin?).

How about the time we’re in the car and just as I’m about to say something completely off subject, he beats me to it. I’m telling you, it’s frightening.

Course, I could chalk it up to thirty-two years of marriage. We hit the mark last week. In fact, I was working at the coffee shop/bookstore I frequent and one of the workers lured me away to talk to me about a new product. When I returned to my table, there was a beautiful vase bursting with a dozen yellow roses (my favorite!), some DeBrand chocolates, and a mocha with whipped cream.

I’m telling you, it doesn’t get any better than that. But like I said, the man reads my mind.

So, is there anyone like that in your life? Husband? Mom? Sister? Friend?

P.S. By the way, the picture is not of us, but, hey, I write fiction. *g*

I the bad one in our marriage. We have 5 years on you, Di. But then I was a child bride. snerk.

But I forever finish my hubby's - and irk the fire out of him. LOL

But actulaly, it IS scary how you think so much alike after so many years.

But then, adopted children take on so many mannerisms of their adoptive parents that unless they are of a totally different racial heritage, they begin to look alike.

How did we get so far off subject? Oh yeah - writer rabbit trail. ;o)

Happy Anniversary! Ours was last week, too! The 21st. 15 years.

You and Jim are blessed.

Love you, Rachel

Well we're coming up on our 11th, but my wife has the uncanny ability to know when I'm stressed before she even sees me. I'll come home from work after a yucky day only to find a special treat - a DVD I've always wanted, a Blueberry cream pie, a marinated steak just waiting for the grill or my favorite bottle of wine. It's cool! Sometimes she even says, "I'm taking the kids to my parents house for the evening so you can write."

Our anniversary is the 22nd, Rachel! How fun!

Wow, Allen, very cool that your wife anticipates you like that!

My husband and I are the same way (and only after 15 years of marriage) it is getting to the point that we don't actually have to say anything at all, we can just look at each other and say, "yeah." Weird but true.

I love it though, that is what intimacy is all about!

Our 7th anniversary is this Sunday. We just irritate each other if we finish each other's sentences, but we have this uncanny ability to communicate with our eyes! He just uses his eyes to express things and I somehow know how to read them! :)

And, he's not a romantic, but he's such a TIME person that I don't need the romance. Calls several times a day, always wants to be around me whenever possible and plans to do things for just the two of us because we need more time together. I guess Time is both of our "love languages" so we speak it loud and clear! :)

Oh, man, Diann. Roses, chocolates, and a mocha delivered in your public work place? How romantic. No, as you said, it doesn't get any better than that!

Re: both of you THINKING alike. One day you'll LOOK alike! ROFL. Yes, it's true, at least according to some info I've read (Erma Bombeck, maybe?). ROFLOL

Sometimes I'll be having a really rotten day and I'll think, "I wish I could talk to my mom about this." Five minutes later, the phone will ring and it will be my 81 year old mom (who is 8 time zones and 9,000 miles away). She calls perhaps three random times a month--so it's not a "planned" call. It's the craziest thing! (I always feel better after her call.) I wonder if it's MCR ("mother caring radar") instead of ESP? It's not even a new thing: She's been "picking up the vibes" ever since I left for college (in 1971)! I'm blessed to have such a mother!

My best friend Beth is this person for me. We ARE each other, it's quite creepy actually. : )

I have several friends who can just sense when I need a call or a prayer...

But my husband really freaks me out. I will be thinking about something I need to tell him, or something I want to share with him...and he'll look at me and ask "Did you say something?"

Dave can do that too. And I'm really in tune with Kara that way. The weird thing with her is that we often get the same issues with our health. LOL

My Dad and I do that often, at college I get in my mind food I want him to make when I come home on break. This last time it was cheese steaks so I told my mom. The same night my dad mentioned to her that he wanted cheesesteaks. Then on the way home the next week I texted my mom asking her to tell my dad I wanted beef jerkey (he works at Wild Bills) and a little while later he calls me to tell me that he had already hand picked some cut it up and bagged it for me. Before I asked for it. He's the bestest Dad. I love it when that happens.

Deena, that totally cracked me up!!!! Now THAT'S connected!!!

Like Colleen, I have that with my daughter, too. Sometimes our lines ring busy because we're calling each other at the same time!

Well, now that I've seen how the comments have gone, I have to post again.

It's the whole "being one" thing.

I used to get hit with fear or anxiety at night. I'd wake up with a start, and just being battling fear. So, I'd lay quietly in bed praying. Sometimes get up and do a little warfare in the living room. Goes away, I go back to sleep.

But a few times it was heavy fear and I'd be praying and Tony would wake out of a dead sleep and ask, "Are you okay?"

One time we were in this little village outside of Guatemala City on a mission trip. We had bunk beds in our room, so he was sleeping three feet above me.

I woke up one night, same deal, I started praying to myself, not even really whispering, and I hear, "Are you okay."

Freaky. He said he woke up and just knew something was wrong. He prayed for me and a minute later I fell into a peaceful sleep.

Love all these stories, y'all!

Rachel

My husband does that and I do it to him as well. But I didn't realize how me and my sisters do it until one day my husband watched the 3 of us cooking and finally said "Stop It" We were confused. He said we'd been cooking and laughing for over an hour and not ONE of us had finished a sentence on our own yet. LOL

My best friend and I do that too. Finish each other's sentences and know what we're referring to without saying it.
