Girls Write Out

Some of us have a past.

For some reason a childhood memory came to me this morning. Something I’m not necessarily proud of, but it’s there just as big as you please.

See, I have—um, HAD a huge crush on Kurt Russell. While in the third grade, my “friend” came over for a visit. We talked about whatever it is that third graders talk about and then it happened. She spotted the humongous poster of Kurt Russell’s face on my bedroom wall. She started teasing me about it, which I didn’t, well, appreciate. One thing led to another and suddenly things turned ugly. Did I mention she had a banana in her hand?

The next thing I know, we’re calling each other names and she takes a hunk of banana and smears it on Kurt’s face. All at once, time stands still. My thoughts turn dark. Very dark.

In the distance, a dog barks.

Springing into action, I wail into her so fast she doesn’t know what hit her. What follows is somewhat of a blur.

Rest assured that I paid dearly. I lost my poster and had to do time. Sometimes being young and in love isn’t pretty.

So tell us about your first crush.

Hans Solo - at age 6

Need I say more? :)

Actually, didn't you know I am Princess Leah's long lost sister who Hans found on a distant planet? He rescued me along with all my stuffed animals that had been taken prisoner with me. We are forever in his debt.

I am laying in bed with my fist in the air saying yessss....

Di,

That's hilarious!

My first crush was Donny Osmond. I had posters of him on my wall, listened to all his records, wrote him letters.

I liked him for years, through those awkward geeky times. In a way, he helped me. He was so nice and squeeky clean, I just knew if he met me, he'd think I was the most beautiful woman in the world, and tell me so.

In this imaginary world where only Rachel lived, it gave me confidence.

Now, I live in this imaginary world when it comes to book writing....

I think I need help...

:) Rachel

LOL! That's a great story!

Remington Steele. Not Pierce Brosnon, Remington Steele.

And Bruce Boxlietner's character from Scarecrow and Mrs. King...I think it was Lee?!

Princess Leah--er, uh, Jaime, I'm so glad Hans rescued you! *g*

Diana, you gave up beauty sleep for Elvis. The things we do for love!

Rache, I was a big Donny Osmond fan, too--though my allegiance stayed with Kurt.

Reese, I soooooo get that Remington Steele thing. He is just toooo sauve and debonnaire (do people still say those words?). *g*

Sorry Rachel, Donny was all mine, all mine, I tell you. LOL Doubtful that anyone had as many posters of Donny nor had hung them as lovingly as I had (*snort*)

Guys have crushes too so I might as well weigh in...Susand Dey of the Partridge Family.

I bet Denise thought I was going to say Princess Leah. That crush came later.

LOL!!

Dirk Benedict from Battlestar Galactica...among others:-) Although, I had some fun with my daughter the other day. We were watching something on TV, and Greg Evigan came on the screen.

I told her, "Hey, he kissed me once." She looked at me, bug-eyed. I think she thought I'd lost my mind. "No, really, he kissed me once."

When I was 13, he was filming an episode of "BJ and the Bear" in my hometown...I braved the crowds, got an autograph and a peck on the cheek, and a picture as proof!!

My daughter thinks I'm a little nutty...but way cool:-)

Ah yes, I am all about Remington Steele...he's so Cary Grant!

If any of you need to borrow my complete set of DVD's just let me know....LOL

Oh, I forgot to add as far as posters on my wall...I was the only one in my school who loved Bruce Penhall.

I know, you have NO idea who he is, right?

Think CHiPS...back in 1983-1984 when Ponch got a new partner...the partner's younger brother...*sigh* Yes, I practiced my kissing with the poster on my bedroom wall.

Wonder whatever happened to him?

At 4:00 PM, Blogger Diann Hunt said...

I love reading all these!

Quick, Rachel, hide the poster--I think Julie has a banana!

Allen, Susan Dey was pretty, but I never noticed her much with David Cassidy around. *g*

Wow, Deena, kissed by a star!

Suzanne, I'm straining my brain to remember Bruce Penhall, but it's just not coming to me.

Michael Landon on BONANZA.

Sometimes I told my mom I had a headache so I could stay home from Sunday evening church and watch the show. Lame, very lame. I'm sure my mom saw through it.

Gilbert Blythe.

Growing up with a "spunky" personality and red hair, it's no surprise that I love the Anne of Green Gables books (and movies).

Oh yes, Pam, I love Michael Landon! But I fell for him during Little House on the Prairie. *g* I love that show! It always makes me cry! I've just recently gotten our seven-year-old granddaughter hooked on it!

Melanie, I LOVE Anne of Green Gables! What an awesome show!

ROFLOL!!!!

Mine was Ricky Nelson. Sigh. I grew up in the L.A. area and went horseback riding where he did - Griffith Park. There was a restaurant at the top of the mountain back in those days. Not sure if it's still there.

Anyway, my friend and I were riding and stopped for lunch on top of the mountain. We had to be all of about 10. Ricky and David Nelson were there.

my friend was way too shy to ever speak anyone - even to our teachers. I always had to talk for her. I've never been exactly shy.

So I pranced up to them, got the autograph on a napkin and took it back to our table.

My friend proceded to take the napkin from me and wouldn't give it back. I didn't want to risk tearing it, so when we were mounting up to go back home, I tried to remove it from her pocket. But I sort of nudged her as I did.

And she fell off.

And broke her arm.

Man, did I ever get it.

And she got to keep the napkin. Framed it.

Can you see my pout? :o{

At 4:51 PM, Blogger Diann Hunt said...

Oh my goodness, Ane, that's hilarious!! Wow, not only did you meet the Nelsons, but you give your friend a broken arm all in the same day? Remind me to let you keep your napkins!

Okay, the truth is my friend in the story? I gave her a bloody nose. Over Kurt Russell. Sigh. He was worth it. *g*

LOL, you can tell Ane and I are of the same era. Ricky Nelson was my big crush. His pictures were all over my bedroom wall. A friend's dad had once played in a band with Ozzie Nelson and to me that was a link made in heaven. Little did I know Ane was out there in LA enroaching on my territory. Years later I lived in LA and a guy my roommate was dating played on a softball team with David Nelson. We used to go to the games and there was David still looking very much like he did when he was on TV. I never did tell him about my Ricky wall though.

I adored John Schneider on the Dukes of Hazzard. I feel stupid saying that, LOL, but it's true. I thought he was the most dreamy thing ever. Sigh. Actually, he aged pretty well. (remember I was around 8 maybe)

As a teenager I loved Johnny Depp on 21 Jumpstreet, but now I find him strange. :/

Fun post, Diann, regardless of the Kurt Russell thing. ;)

Diann, I have 7 full seasons of Little House on DVD and going for my 8th. I'm a LHOTP junkie. :)
But I had a crush on Albert - that was after Hans Solo ditched me for Princess Leah. Oh well.

Oh, wow, Pam, softball games with David Nelson???? That is so cool!!

John Schneider's pretty neat, Sabrina. Johnny Depp, too, but I agree with the strange thing. *g*

Another LHOTP fan, Jaime!!! Whoohooo!!!

For me, it too was Gilbery Blythe from Anne of Green Gables. My name is Anne-with an 'e'- so it was seriously just meant to be! :-)

Now though, it's Hugh Jackman. Definitely can't wait for his new TV series this fall!! :-)

Spock? The dude has pointy ears, Colleen. Does that mean nothing to you?

They're cute! LOL And it's that whole tortured soul thing he's got going. A woman thinks she can bring peace to his soul. LOL

This gave me a good giggle today!

I'm also a big Anne fan--so I guess you could say I had a small thing for Gilbert.

But before him, I'd say my first crush was probably on Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World. I still think Topanga and Cory are one of the cutest TV couples ever.

At 7:30 PM, Blogger Kristin said...

What would ever possess you to publicly say Leonard Nimoy? Have you no shame?

I was blessed with never having to fight one of my GF's for my guy of choice...I always seemed to fall for the one no one else wanted...

Case in point: All the girls were ga-ga over Shaun Cassidy of Hardy Boys fame--me?? I chose Parker Stevenson...speaking of which...I need to go watch him on DVD...**SIGH**

At 7:58 PM, Blogger Crystal Laine said...

I am crying (from laughing so hard) at reading all of these, but who should throw me on the floor where I can't breathe? Colleen saying she had a crush on Leonard Nimoy~! (Spock)

I had a lot of crushes because I grew up in the country and we didn't have much to do, but daydream while we did our mindless chores. Let's see--I adored John Denver. Farout! My best friend made me a plaque (using decopage) of his photo--I still have it!

And I was madly in love with Atticus Finch. I just knew someday I would meet someone like him and he'd fall in love with me, too. (I have never even known anyone who remotely resembled Atticus Finch.)

I finally married Chad Everett (Medical Center--see if any of you remember HIM.)

But I'm with whomever said Tom Selleck was a hottie (he was definitely unattainable--that was part of his charm, right?)

I would so have been on your side about Kurt Russell, though, Diann. That's definitely a throw down if you smear banana on Kurt!!!

My best friend, "Stoff," and I went to the State Fair to see Mac Davis because she was so in love with him. We were in the nose bleed seats (all of 16 years old) and Stoff was positive he could see us. I didn't say "no way," (since I'd been on stage before and knew he could barely see his own guitar...) but instead, I played along and said, "Yes! I KNOW he sees you!"

It was "boss." This was fun.

At 8:11 AM, Blogger Diann Hunt said...

Oh, Crystal, Chad Everett was groovy!!! *g*

At 8:15 AM, Blogger Colleen Coble said...

What is so funny about having a crush on Mr. Spock, Crystal? Sheesh, all that inner torture! I dreamed of being the woman to help soothe that pain. LOL
