Girls Write Out

You know how you can get advice, but it never registers until you're ready to hear it? And someone's words just suddenly "click" for you? I was watching Oprah the other day and she had this woman on who used to be extremely obese and had lost hundreds of pounds. What she said changed things for her was giving herself a little grace. Knowing if she fell off the wagon, to get right back on for the next meal and act like it never happened.

That just totally resonated with me for some reason. Maybe because I can be a perfectionist. I don't like to exercise and when I've planned to, and the day passes and yeah, I've done nothing, it's over for me. I help myself to a truffle with a double iced mocha and sit this one out. So these words were magical for me -- it was like, really? I can just start over? If I miss Tuesday, I can still try again on Wednesday. It's really a remarkable gift. I've lost 12 lbs in the last month from exercising and eliminating iced mochas (um, I drank a lot of them!) Before you get weird on me, I'm not the kind of person who looks overweight. I'm long and lean by nature, so it's just about the way I feel. I'm drinking iced, soy lattes if anyone cares, but doesn't that sound so California? Ack, I'm almost embarrassed at what a stereotype I've become. Next thing I'll be driving a Bimmer. (NOT!)

I hike to the top of my hill every other day and I'm getting where I can RUN down. Isn't that exciting? And if I blow it for a week, I know I can start again. It's not over til the ahem, skinny woman sings! : )

P.S. Got my kitchen done this week, I'll post pictures on the weekend when the sink is in. With the befores so you can all feel sorry for me. : )

Hey Kristen, I think I just read about that gal on an agent's site. She's a writer, right?

As for the soy lattes, what's the diff? Are they really lower in fat? If so, I'm so going there. And I guess this is appropriate, since I live in CA (and like you, freely admit it ;0).

Julie, an iced mocha has approximately 350 calories to a 120 soy latte. It at least sweetens it a little. I don't like fake sugar and milk makes it too bland for me. More info than you were looking for? LOL

I just checked and if you get a soy mocha, it's 330 calories. A regular whole milk latte is 160. I don't like blue milk either. LOL I'm a picky thing.

Great post. You're so right to remind us. Give ourselves grace.

Yet, at the same time, God recently convicted me of saying "Yes" to Him in an area (okay, fasting) confessing grace and weakness, and not ever getting around to what I said "Yes" to do.

He said, "Rach, you're like the servant who said Yes but never went."

Oh, yikes. I knew He was so right. Of course!

But yes! Some of us are way to hard on ourselves. We have to give ourselves grace to mess up. At least you are walking up the hill, Kristin and working toward a goal. If you mess up a week, you have grace to ge back to it.

Congrats on the kitchen! Woo hoo!

Love, R

Kristin- relax. As long as you avoid those "ugly" cars that look like "eggs", you're all good. :)

I use to play indoor soccer. Got hurt last Feb. Tore my mcl (knee ligament) completely off the bone. Sorry if you're squeamish. No surgery just a very long rehab.

My problem is my white chocolate mocha. Those babies are over 600 calories. I try to limit to maybe 3 a wk.

With no soccer playing, my backside is getting wide....wider. I have to either cut out the drinks completely or at least cut down the # I drink.

I absolutely love them. It brings back memories of my dad & I sitting on the front porch having coffee together, as well as they taste heavenly.

So Kristin, good for you! You deserve a big pat on the back. You are an inspiration!

I'll get there someday, just not today........

Rhonda, I'm there with ya, hon. I was doing two mochas a day!! It's a hard addiction to break, it really is, but after a while off of it, you won't be able to go back easily, they're too sweet! But this is the longest I've gone, I always tend to drift back slowly and I'm really trying hard not to go back -- it's better to eat real food. : )

Soccer burns a lot of calories, so that had to be hard!! But that sport is so hard on knees!!

Just yesterday we stopped at Starbucks on the way to church. My husband asks if I want my usual grande white choc mocha. I told him no and to please don't tempt me. So what does he do? Comes walking out with a tall wcm and then says that he got a small one and told them no whip cream. He's got this big smile on his face and says that I shouldn't deny him our "special time" of drinking our coffee together. Yea, right.

He's not addicted to those things. He can go weeks without one. Me, just typing the words makes my mouth water!

I'm starting an exercise program......................................................................soon.

ok, too weird - I was a horrible exercise perfectionist too! And I had zero grace. I would say, I'm doing M, W, F this week and if I didn't do it Monday, I'd forget it for the week and then, in defiance, eat junk. Yes, I do need therapy. Anywhoo, finally, I got great advice from someone who asked, "Can you exercise today? Ok, then do it and don't worry about the week. Just do what you can today even if it's just 5 minutes." Well, between that and the motivation of getting 30 minutes of uninterrupted reading time on the exercise bike, I'm up to about 4 days a week! Woo hoo! Exercise never felt so good! LOL

Yeah, mochas are yum, yum... there's something about chocolate syrup... anywhoo - congrats on losing 12 pounds and the new kitchen! That peach was really... peach!
