Remember a few short years ago before anyone knew what the term "Social Networking" meant? I'm shocked by how quickly things have changed. Facebook has shriveled the world down to the size of a fifteen inch monitor.
I'm amazed by how easy it is to keep in touch with my out-of-town family. By how handy it is to deliver birthdays and anniversaries wishes. By how simple it is to get reacquainted with old friends. Or check in on my teenagers' thoughts--even if they are sitting right across the room.
I've heard amazing stories of people finding long lost parents and children or old lovers reuniting. I love Facebook for all these reasons, but my favorite use of this great social tool? Connecting with people who were previously very difficult to find--my readers! I can speak directly to them and they feel free to chat with me. Facebook has truly revolutionized my world.

I've had some strange requests from people who want to be my friend on Facebook, but Pugsly Puggles takes the cake--or should I say bone? I posted this on Facebook but I'm so amazed by it, I decided to post it here as well.
It's true. I've been asked to be a friend to a dog. I love dogs. I do. I have one (and yes, in this picture she is in dire need of grooming--which she has since received, just so you know). But it just surprises me that Pugsly can type. Not only that, but Pugsly Puggles wants to be my friend. MY friend. I'm kind of scared to ask, but what does that mean about me if my friends are dogs? Just wondering out loud here.
Anyway, thought I would share. It's not every day one gets singled out on Facebook by a dog. I don't know whether to rollover and play dead--or gnaw on a juicy bone.

It's hard to remember what life was like before facebook, isn't it? Social networking has completely changed the way we connect to other people. In fact, I'm starting to wish we could carry some facebook features over into real life. If only there was a hand-held device we could carry with buttons we could push to make things happen. Think about it.
Put your foot in your mouth? Remove. Gone, just like that.
Approached by a lotion-squirting mall salesperson? "Would you like to try some--" Ignore.
Friend who only talks about her brilliant toddler? Unfriend.
Talking to a cute guy at a party and afraid to ask his religious beliefs? Religious views.
Having an awkward How do I know you? moment? Friends in Common. Oh yeah, she's from that class I took!
Lonely? Find Friends and there they are.
Running out of small-talk ideas with a new acquaintance? Info. What do we have in common . . .
Need to be alone? Privacy.
Not looking your best today? Change Picture.
Bad memory keeps resurfacing? Next!
Want to inform your boss of your recent accomplishment? Tag.
Get separated from your buddies in a crowd? Find Your Friends.
Suspect a friend blabbed your secret to someone else? Recent Activity.
Tired of making small-talk at an business function? Offline.
Approve of your wife's new hairstyle? Like.
Okay, maybe we need an app with a flashing beacon to alert the husband that his wife got a new hairstyle. But seriously, see how handy it would be? So if you figure out a way to make Facebook Live happen, can you please post the directions? I'll be sure and like it.

With all the commotion over this whole Facebook thing lately, it seems a good time to ask just what you think is appropriate to post online. Some people post pictures, others refuse to do so. Some put their phone numbers on Facebook, others wouldn't think of it. Some plug in credit card information while others would never consider it.
Sometimes I get a little too free with the information I put out there, but Colleen is quick to point out that most people can look up your personal information online anyway. Seems there's nothing private these days.
So what do you think? Are you more reserved in your postings on Facebook, Twitter, My Space, and blogs, or do you think it doesn't really matter all that much? Where do you draw the line?
