You know what I'm tired of? Spending money on products that don't deliver. Beauty products are especially notorious for this. Makeup that promises to stay on all day and is gone by mid-afternoon. Shampoo that promises to turn frizzy dry hair sleek and straight. (I know better than to believe this).
But when you find a products that actually delivers, you're almost in disbelief. A product that lives up to its promise--what do you know?
So, it's share time. Here are some of my favorite beauty products, the ones I pack on vacation because I can't live without them for a week.
Estee Lauder Clear Difference Oil Control Hydrator--no more face powder touch-ups. This stuff works!
Carmex Lip Balm. You'll never buy Chap Stick again!
Cover Girl Advanced Radiance is the face powder for me. I've tried more expensive ones and this is the one I always go back to.
Matrix Sleek Look Shampoo, Conditioner, Styling Creme and Lock-Down Spray. This actually goes a long way toward taming the frizz.
Studio Gear eyeshadow--This one was a recommendation from Colleen. I apply it wet as eyeliner and it lasts all day.
Loreal Eye Defense. You'd have to read my first blog on aging eyes to know what this creme fixed, but trust me, it works.
Cover Girl Outlast lip color. A little hard to remove when you DO want it off, but this stuff really lasts and looks nice for hours and hours.
Kendra Thermal Styling Spray. This is used before using a curling iron or flat iron. Makes a big difference.
And finally, my ultimate splurge: the Chi Ceramic Flatiron. My salon used it on my hair for two years before I finally took the plunge and purchased one on ebay. Expensive, but heads above the other flatirons (no pun intended).
What are your favorite beauty products?

I LOVE the Chi flat iron!! After buying umpteen cheap wannanbe Chi's, I finally broke down and asked hubby for one for Christmas, and it's the best thing ever!! But, you do have to be careful that you don't burn your hair...that sucker gets hot!
As far as other products, I've come to love Bed Head After Party...my bleached blonde mane is starting to show signs of distress, and After Party helps smooth all those fly aways down...Oh, and Joico KPak (shampoo, conditioner, and treatment) also helps with those damaged locks!
(Do I sound like a commercial? Oh well, it REALLY works!)
Oh, the power of influence. I grabbed a pen and jotted down Studio Gear eyeshadow, making a mental note to use it as eyeliner as you said.
Thanks!
Yeah, the Chi gets HOT! The Kendra spray helps protect the hair, and yeah, keep that baby moving!
Kristy, the angled Studio Gear brush #37 is a must-have for applying the eyeliner.
I swear by the Cover Girl Outlast! I love it. And any make-up remover or oil removes it. I got a packet of Ponds Clean Sweep make-up remover sheets. They work great. I hate to get soap in my eyes, so I use those first before I wash my face. And they work on the lipstick.
At times like this, I really am glad I'm a guy.
I put the Carmex on there just for you, Allen. Since you can't use any of the others. :-)
I am in love with Burt's Bees lip shimmer. They come in several different shades and are, "100% natural" which means a lot to me (I think I have several hundred tubes of undigested lip balm somewhere deep within) plus they have a cool mint taste and make your lips tingle. They are pretty inexpensive too at under $4 each.
Totally agree on the Carmax, even use it when the corners of my mouth get dry and chaped in the winter.
I'm hooked on the Herbal Essences' Totally Twisted mousse. When I style my hair this makes it curl and holds all day, nothing else has worked on my straight as a board hair like this does. No more hairspray!
But I've had the hardest time finding something to help keep my face clear. I still suffer with acne, partly because of a thyroid condition, and when I do wear make-up I'll have flare ups. But with my tight budget I'm stuck. Anyone have any suggestions?
Aveda shampoo and conditioner - any kind - it's like a spa treatmenet for my scalp and hair everytime I use it.
Where do you GET Studio Gear stuff?? i'm from the midwest, my Walmart stocks CoverGirl and Sally Stuart. Woo-hoo.
I use Aveda everything right now - from hairspray to make-up. It's all natural which I like a lot and the makeup is very light. BUT - the eyeliner rubs off easy so I'm interested in Studio Gear.
I'll have to try the Burt Blee and Herbal Essence mousse! THanks!
Jaime, I got the Studio Gear at Ulta. I'm not sure if where else it's carried.
Winter,
I have flare ups too. (and I'm 36!) What works for me may not work for you, but I have found that sticking with a line of products (all from the same manufacturer)- from face wash to makeup works best for me. I love Neutrogena's Oil Free Acne Wash and their acne-fighting makeup.
I wear Neutrogena's Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion under my makeup and it's absolutely revolutionized my skin. Combined with their Skin Clearing Oil-free makeup line, it's done wonders for my skin. Truly.
Thanks for the thought, Denise, but I've never used anything on my lips. And as far as skin goes, Kristi has been trying to get me to use some sort of cream under my eyes because of the dark bags there...I've heard that potassium, found in bananas will clear it up.
Jane Iredale mineral makeup. FABULOUS!!!
Winter - ProActiv has worked wonderfully for me. I started using it about 8 years ago, and back then I used the 3-step kit twice a day every day. That cleared up most of it...and now, I use it occasionally, mostly for flare-ups. Now I mostly use the toner to keep things under control. AND, I LOVE their oil-free moisturizer.
Hey Girl,
I use AcneFree Clear Skin System.
3 Step's like Proactiv And AcneFree it's affordable at $20 for 60 day's.
It work's 24/7.
You can get it at wal-mart or any dragstore.
I been useing it for about 3 years.
I have to have it, it really help's me.
O.K that's my 2 cent's...
Lancome Définicils high definition mascara. I've never found anything better. No clumping and no smudge through rubbing, crying, etc., yet it comes right off in the shower.
And amen to the Cover Girl Outlast suggestion. It is the only 8-hour lipstick that actually lives up to that promise. I'm allergic to the lip gloss that comes with it, but Carmex works just as well. : )
Oh that is a great mascara, Deb. I love that one, and the Origins one in the green tube. I change makeup all the time, with the exception of the Jane Iredale, I get bored. Great tips here though!!! Hey, I was reading in Seventeen at the dentist office today that Dolphin Shorts are the MUST have for Spring 2007, so all you youngins will have your day!
My new love is Arbonne Clear advantage. It's similar to proactive but all it's ingredients are all natural. It's evened out my skin tone, softened my skin and cleared up a lot of my acne problems. I love the stuff and I recomend it. I can't wait to try more Arbonne!
Denise, of all my products I can't do without is my CHI! I LOVE it. Well worth whatever my husband and mil paid for it--she's a hairdresser. I don't leave home without it!
Makeup? Hmmm....I try to avoid it on most days. LOL But my moisturizer? Won't go without it! Either Chanel (which is VERY pricey, so I don't get often--normally a gift) or Oil of Olay Age Defying Intense Moisturizer with spf of 30. :)
Oooo, I like Studio Gear and Cover Girl Outlast. The thing about Outlast though is if you put it on without your glasses, you could be stuck with lips colored outside the line ALL DAY LONG.
Great suggestions, Denise!
