I'd do it again in a heartbeat for you, girlfriend!!! Well, maybe if you throw in a truffle. :-) Praying you're feeling better soon!
I'm going to Mt. Hermon this week, too! It's my first time so I will be glad to see a friendly face. Look forward to meeting you!
Eww. I hate food poisoning. I'll be praying for you for sure. Have fun in Cali!
Diann, you had to mention truffles didn't you? I still talk about the DeBrands that Colleen brought me the last time she was in Hawaii. I'm not sure if ignorance is bliss in this case. Indiana is a long way to go for chocolate, even if it is DeBrands. :)
I am jealous! Leaving this "wonderful" Indiana weather for beautiful sunny CA! Can I go? I need some good sunshine and warm weather. I think I might finally have a chance at the sun shine today. I am missing that! I crave sun.
Have a fun, safe trip.
I hope you get well soon, ive had some tummy bug the last day and i know how you are feeling (i think)
last year i got to go overseas for my first time and went to a retreat with my online christian ladies group. there were 11 (one left early) and it was wonderful oh it was in Vancouver. apart for the fall on the bus which affected my bad knee (still feeling that one) and a few little things like jetlag (3am is a great time to go online when your roomie is snoring and you decide you may as well use the free internet down stairs cos you sure as anything wont sleep) But i have wonderful memories. I am going back 2010 and am saving madly. I made closer friends meeting the ladies in person and a couple i want to bring home cos they are closer than any friends here.
have a wonderful time. (oh my friend i met was having treatment for lung cancer at the time but one lung is cancer free and the other has been down graded to not needing anymore chemo and they had told her there wasn't much hope but prayer has healed her this far.)
I'd throw in a whole box of truffles, Di! LOL
Oh Annie, that's great you're going. I'm still sick. I might have to come a day late. We'll see how things go today.
Malia, those truffles are never to be forgotten!
Andrea, come on along!
Jenny, I have a friend with a gimpy lung. LOL
Colleen, I hope you feel better soon. There's almost nothing worse than having to travel when you're sick.
As for memories with old friends... well, my sister, best friend and I went to London (yes, THAT London) for the weekend to visit a girlfriend from college. Her husband is a chaplain in the Air Force and they were stationed in Huntingdon. We used airmiles and only had to buy one ticket. The great thing was the airline was offering a free night in a luxury London hotel with the purchase of a RT ticket. So, after 2 days with Emily touring the lovely countryside, we spent one whole day traversing the streets of London. Then we flew home the next day.
Our coworkers thought we were crazy because they assumed it was an extravagance, but it was cheaper than going to the beach for the weekend! :) I have lots more stories to share, but I'll save room for all the other folks who want to.
What a fun site! I think it's so neat that the authors I enjoy have blogs. I've been enjoying Angela Hunt's blog for awhile. I think she's headed out to Mt. Hermon as well this week. Hope you get to feeling better soon. I'd rather have just about any sickness than stomach troubles.
Tummy aches are no fun. Hope you feel strong and ready for all those cookie breaks at Mt. H, Colleen!!!
I used to love Mt. H because of the setting, now it's because of all the people I've met over the years there. I think this'll be my 10th or 11th conference--too many memories to count. Think I might have to add Carmel into the batch, though, LOL...don't you just love all that white sand? Oh my.
Hope you get some rest. --Julie
I'm not going this year (obviously). Instead I'll be at Glen Eyrie at the end of April for Angela Hunt's fiction workshop. I do love the atmosphere at MH--nothing like taking a quiet walk among the redwoods. Next time, though, I'd love to see something of that part of CA--last time all I saw was from the airport in San Jose and back.
I have a group of Colorado girlfriends that twice a year do a weekend retreat in the mountains with only the girls--no husbands or kids. They've done it for years. I've been fortunate to be at three of these fun outings. Four of my former roommates attend these, so when I went last, the five of us stayed up 'til after 3 a.m. talking. It was such a blast. 'Course the next day we had to be powered by caffeine... :) It is proof (for me anyway) that the old song is true: "Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold."
Hope you're feeling better and can go to the conference. :)
I just remembered that my friend Nancy wrote about the "Wild Women Weekend" (which is what they call the all-girls' getaway I talked about in my post above) in TODAY'S CHRISTIAN WOMAN a few years back. I looked it up on line and found the article--which is now 10 years old. (Wow! How did that time pass so quickly?!) When I re-read the article I thought: (1) "What a great bunch of friends I have back in Colorado. I am so fortunate to know them and have their friendship and love." (2) I forgot what a good writer Nancy is. I'll have to encourage her to check out this blog--she'll think it's a lot of fun. (3) It's a great article about celebrating supportive, long-term friendships. Here is the link:

Rats! The last part of the link I wrote above didn't paste in my comment! It's 8w2060.html
