Girls Write Out
Thursday, May 28, 2009

I'm about to tell you something I've never admitted to anyone ever before in my life. Ready? Lean in so I can whisper. Take the pinkie swear that you will never repeat this. Deep breath here.

I have cracked heels.

There. It's out. I can't tell you how much better I feel. Pass the chocolate.

It's like this. I only wear shoes when forced to and I fear that has brought on my problem. I haven't worried about it much in the past, but with the season of strappy sandals and naked heels upon us, I decided it was time to act.  Okay, that and the fact that my heels snagged a hole in the comforter on my bed last night.

Here's the thing. We live in a world of "instants," fast food, all that. So I want a quick fix. I tried that whole sawing it down with sand paper thing, and let me tell you, I could go straight to the bone without ever seeing smooth skin. Maybe I'm beyond help, I don't know.

So I'm asking you, my cyber cafe friends, can anything be done to help my feet or should I head for Africa and tromp along the rain forest with the elephants?

PedEgg. Hands down the winner. I've never been able to get mine smooth until someone recommended the PedEgg to me. It really works. I follow it up with Vaseline brand Intensive Rescue Healing Foot Cream ($3.75 at Target). And little cotton socks until the cream has soaked in, or overnight.

LOL, Di!!! I never wear shoes either. There's a foot cream called Eucerin that is just FABULOUS. It's intensive therapy for that kind of problem.

Regular pedicures would cut that out forever. I know because I haven't had one in ages, and I'm on of you now. ACK> LOL

Aside from the occasional pedicure where they take a razor to the heel (illegal in our state)--I recommend Burt's Bees Foot Creme :)

Pedegg! I recommend that too! And sleeping in thick lotion and socks for a few nights. You'll see a difference!! =)

Okay, I am noticing a definite and absolutely quicker response to this post than Colleen's on Harley's! And what can we deduce from this? That we can't hear the motorcyles for the Pedeggs??

I'm with you, though. And will keep the Pedegg in mind. I have been noticing all these cute pedicures and toenail designs lately, and the frugal part of me is about to give in.

(Definitely go see the elephants, but only after you go to England with your friend....is that still on?)

Seriously, I don't get the motorcycle thing. Never been on one. Had a scooter in college though. LOL

But pretty feet? Well, that's something we all get, right? I mean, we could probably talk about cellulite that way too. Sadly.

I'm so glad you fessed up Diann because I have the same thing as did my Mom. I get one pedi a year which just doesn't cut it ;-)

Reading the answers here though I am on my way to buy a PedEgg thingy this weekend! Phew! Glad you asked! Pretty heels... here I come!

Yep, I agree. PedEgg. Absolutely amazing product.

PedEgg is okay. Do you think that works on cellulite?

I've used the ol' egg, sometimes my heels are so bad it cuts me. One thing that really helps, (when mine is like rhino skin)

Is to slather vaseline on your feet at night and wrap it in plastic wrap. (Then bake at 200 degrees for five minutes LOL)

Put on a pair of socks and go to sleep.

It feels warm and kind of weird at first, and be careful if you have to get up in the middle of the night cause you tend to slide out of your socks.

LOL

If you know you're going to have to run to the bathroom at night just do one foot at a time.

Another less intensive rememdy is to warm up some olive oil and rub that on your foot.
That's good for your hair too, a little fun to wash out but it leaves hair shiny and soft.

Oh my goodness, I've been gone today and just came home to a wealth of information from you all!! Okay, I'm so going with that PedEgg thing. I'll let you know how that turns out.

I may take turns on the different creams you've recommended. I have tried doing that at night with the socks and all that, but we have hardwood floors and I DO slide out of my socks. I like your suggestion, Tina, I'll try one foot at a time!

Kristin, your post made me laugh out loud!!!

Thank goodness for all of your suggestions! I've got the same problem but have avoided the PedEgg because I had no idea if it worked.

I have a solution!! My little seven-year-old has cracked heels and basically the bottom of his toes. It was so bad that they would bleed.

I sell Avon and decided to try the Foot Works Therapeutic Cracked Heel Relief Cream. IT WORKS!!

What I did was smear it all over his little feet at bed time and then placed his socks on his feet. About a week, I noticed a vast difference, on week two he was healed!!

And the best part, it is very inexpensive, less than $5.00.

I am not trying to sell you this product, but I know for a fact it works.

Right now we are testing it on my husband's psoriasis and it is helping the inflammation.

Leticia, give us your webpage! I also heard that Avon has one of the best new moisturizers available too. A Trekkie who sells Avon. Now that is characterization.

I'm going to check out your blog now, Suzanne. :-)

Foot massages...with a deep healing lotion like Eucerin or some expensive stuff like Bath and Body body cream in your favorite fragrance...

have them in the evening and then sleep in soft cotton socks. Works wonders!!!

Di,
Just saw your comment on sliding on the wood floors...try wearing Crocs at night with your socks! Comfy:-)

DiAnn, my heels are soooo bad. I have the ped egg and that can't even cut through the callused skin. It's awful. I've tried all kinds of lotion and everything I can think of. Like you, I sometimes snag my sheets with the dried skin. So embarassing.

I may try the heavy duty lotion and socks. But yikes who wants to wear socks to bed in summer?

At 4:38 PM, Blogger Diann Hunt said...

See, Pam, that's what I mean. For this hot flash queen socks just don't work for me in bed at night. Maybe we can find some light-weight socks. I'll have to look around and see what I can find. I'll let you know if I find anything.

I just ordered that Avon cream. Soon as I hear something works, I'm there. Maybe during the day we can wear socks and lotion LOL. that is if we're parked at our computers writing LOL.

Pedicures, every two weeks, Di. That's the secret. When I moved to GA from CA, my calloused heels took an entire year to get smooth. But with my dry skin, they're always cracking. I have to use a ton of goop on them. And if you sand them down too fast, the new skin cracks and HURTS!! The best thing is that cow's belly stuff and cotton socks, but my feet get too hot for socks at night.

I say to heck with it. Wear the sandals and if anyone gives you a dirty look, you tell 'em you deserve every dry crack from all those miles you walked, serving your family.

I LOVE your advice, Ane!!! Especially, the last paragraph!!! I just may have to use that one! *g*

How Beautiful Are the Feet of Those Who Bring Good News ~ Romans 10: 15

Ok, here is the answer. You will need Acne Pads - the generic will work, must contain salytic acid ($2-$3) and Udderly Smooth Cream ($4-$5) - made for Cow Udders. Liberally rub the acne pads on your feet and then very liberally put on the Udderly Smooth cream - must be the cream -do this at least twice a day and within a few days your feet will feel wonderful and you will be ready for the weekend in those strappy shoes. And NO greasy, slimey feeling. I have done the vaseline and socks for years until I found this treatment. NO more.

I'm with Ane--pedicures cure that! Your feet feel soooo good. My mother-in-law used to call the pedicure lady I'd take her to "the foot doctor!"

Ok, I just bought this stuff from Bath & Body called True Blue Spa Heel of Approval. I did the PedEgg after a bath (like hotcoffeenow) and then put this stuff on. My feet DID feel better and seemed smooth, so I'm going to keep trying it.

Nothing NOTHING helps my hands, though. I've tried everything, even doctors. My fingers still crack. I have something called dyshrotic something.

My mom had heels like little hooves from going without shoes all the time. They cracked and snagged and were really thick. She now uses "Bag Balm" for cow udders and swears by it. Good luck!
