The Writing Life

I think some people are under the impression that the writer's life is a glamorous one. If this is your impression, let me give you a little truth today.

As I said in my newsletter, the Ashley Stockingdale books may get made into a movie. I got a call from the lead actress' manager and spoke about the screenplay, timing, possibilities, etc. Isn't that way cool? Isn't that how you want to believe the writing life is? Yeah, me too.

Then, I came in, cleaned up after my dog, my sons, scrubbed the floor around the toilet, fed the fish, did some laundry and got on the bus for the USGS and a field trip about earthquakes and volcanoes with my fourth grader.

I think God missed my memo. I was not destined for a life of drudgery. Did Cinderella scrub the floors only to be a princess, fit in the glass slippers, then kick them off so she could scrub the floors again? I think not!

I also learned yesterday that I pretty much live ON the San Andreas fault. Not near it mind you...on it. It's time for a new memo. Seriously. Check out Ashley's new cover, how cute is this? Don't you love the citrus?

That cover is gorgeous! The citrus and curling script look great together. Now I feel like running out and grabbing a copy of the newly-covered Ashley Stockingdale series. Write on!

And yes, Cinderella (who has a name like that??) didn't return to her life of cleaning bathrooms. But someday we'll leave the mops behind for a mortgage free house and a crown. Cindy may have gotten the prince, but we have the King. LOL.

I love the cover! Way cool.
I agree with Gracie - it makes me want to go out and buy the books all over again.

*falls over* I LOVE that cover!

I want to be in the movie. *preens* I have no idea what part I would play, but that's not important...

Great cover! At least you had some glamour while on the phone. Then real life intrudes. :)

Well, at least you have a very glamorous (isn't that word ugly considering what it means) imagination and gorgeous book covers.

Speaking of Ashley, I told a friend about the blog and she has yet to drop in. If she does, you'll hear demands for more Ashley.

Almost forgot. It looks like I'll get to own a copy with the citrus cover. It'll be my third one. I'm a re-reader, but I keep loaning copies that are never returned.

But please tell me it still has the "Christian man who doesn't live with his mother" line. I may never have discovered your writing if it weren't for that single blurb.

This one looks great too. My favorites will always be the orginal ones. :)

That cover is fabulous!

I've come to the conclusion that no one has a glamorous life. We all deal with dog poop, dirty dishes, trash and the like. Even the ultra rich who can afford servants to fulfill their every whim get the occasional bout of diarrhea.

We're all just people.

Kristin, just think of the jewels added to your crown because of your servitude! :)

I know you've said repeatedly that you are done with Ashley Stockingdale, but what THIS girl wants is more of the adventures of Ashley and Kevin. If you need to do research about Philadelphia,(where Dr. Kevin is practicing) we have some great shopping here too! :D The outlet malls are fantastic.!

I'm very partial to those first ones too. Anne Keenan Higgins just did an amazing job on the artwork, which my publisher kindly sent me. Ami McConnell, my editor at Nelson came up with that brilliant line about living with mommy. I haven't seen the new book to know if it's there or not. It is on the lavender/pink version.

I did start writing another Ashley, but I'm only one chapter in, and I'm not sure that it works, so I will say, at least it's not never now. : ) Kristin

Love the cover! Congratulations.

As for your Memo to God, mine got lost too, don't feel bad. I've written 14 nonfiction books. I never thought that I could write that many and not even have a maid! Go figure.

But I have a feeling God knows what he's doing.

Melanie sent me over here. *waves*

The idea of an Ashley movie just makes my day, and the new cover is terrific. As for another Ashley book, I'm looking forward to seeing what she's up to nowadays. :)

Oh, how fun is that--to have an Ashley S. movie?!?! That's SO cool. To see Ashley on the silver screen?!! Way, way cool. Hope it comes to Istanbul. :) I'll make all my friends go to see it.

Oops. Forgot to comment about living on the fault line. It's really the pits, isn't it?! I live on the Anatolian fault line, so I can relate. I mean, where do you escape to if there is an earthquake? If there is a tornado, you go to the basement. If there is a fire, you leave the building. If there's a flood, you go to higher ground. But if there is an earthquake, where can you go that isn't shaking? And there's no warning alarm or way to know when it's going to hit!

In the last earthquake, I screamed, "EARTHQUAKE! Get under something!" Then I grabbed two of my boys and brought them into the doorway with me. I learned they don't do that anymore because the doors swing.

Oh well, I found out this house rolls through earthquakes easily, so I felt better after that one, but it was on the Calavares fault, so not really that close either.

OMG!!! I pray that the series is made into a movie! The new cover is gorgeous. Ohh makes me wonder who will star as Ashley! Kevin? Seth? Oh the possibilities... :)
