Girls Write Out

My neighbor asked me to watch her house a few weeks ago while they were gone and asked me to let her know if Publisher's Clearing House came calling. LOL!

Okay, so I got to thinking, we sign up for those things but, honestly, do we ever think we'll really win?

Every day truly has its own possibilities, right? So my question to you today is if Publisher's Clearing House came to your door today (with TV cameras and all) and told you that you won a heap of money, what would you do? Would you faint? Would you close the door on them because your hair was a mess and you forgot to put on your makeup? Would you mentally calculate the money and anticipate calling Hawaii for that condo you spotted on the internet that's for sale? Would you call your realtor to sell your house? Hire a full-time nanny for the kids?

It's a given we would give to our church and to our favorite charities. So let's dream a little. If you had unexpected money in the amount of, say, $1,000,000 after taxes and charities what would you do with it?

Me? I have no idea. But if it happens, I'm sure I'll come up with something!

A condo in Hawaii? Heck no, I'd buy a HOUSE there! I so miss Hawaii right now. I was there exactly a year ago preparing for Kara's wedding on Shipwreck Beach on the south side of Kauai. Sigh.

There is a house we have been asking God to give us. It is completely out of our price range, but the floor plan would be excellent for having groups of people over. That is what I would buy and then fix up our current house and give it away.

If so blessed with that kind of money, after taxes and charities were taken care of, I would make sure my parents, two sisters & their families, and our daughter were set for life, then whatever was left, I would put the majority of it away for my "golden years." There are places in the USA that I have always wanted to visit, so I would take some time to do a little traveling.

Great ideas, Kameko! I would love to give my grandkids the gift of a college education. I have six grandkids and in this day and age, it could cost just about that much to get them all through! LOL

Barb, I love that you want the bigger house for having people over. I believe the Lord gave my brother and sister-in-law their beautiful home because they have such open hearts and have people over all the time. It is a perfect home for them and their ministry of hospitality.

Colleen, I can't believe Kara's been married a year! WOW!

Other than paying off my family's mortgages and setting my kids up for college and houses, I would want to take a trip to Ireland. I've always wanted to go there.

In 7th grade Reading class we earned "money" for our grades. Toward the end of the year we had to plan an intinerary for a trip using only the "money" we earned. I chose Ireland, even then. I did all the research, and even planned out where I would be staying each night, where I would eat my meals and what sights I would see. I still have my project folder at my mom and dad's house in my old room.

So Ireland it would be!

After taxes, tithing, missions, and charities, I'd pay off my son's college loans, make sure he had a good car, try to buy him furniture, add on a room to our house, update our old cars, help out friends with financial needs, give to places I can't now and want to, maybe spring an anniversary trip (40th next year), help out pregnancy centers, ... I could go on and on.

I'd build a house with some acreage, preferably about 5. That's enough. And not a huge mansion. About 2500 sq ft is plenty. Did I tell you I hate housework? :) Then I'd give the rest to my church to help support the 11 mission churches we have around the world. :D

If blessed with a windfall, I would tithe it to 5 area churches that support the camp where my husband is executive director, and then tithe to the camp directly. I would then have a financial advisor help us decide how much we need to live on until age 91, and place the rest in trust accounts for our children and grandchildren.

Isn't' it great to dream big? I think about the house God is building for me in heaven. Will it be a cabin on a lake, a house on the beach where I can walk and play in the surf, or will it truly be a mansion that is way too big but oh, so pretty?

I would love to be able to move closer to my family and grandchildren, though, if God decides to bless me with a windfall!

Thanks so much for asking!
Cheri
